Emirates has officially resumed daily direct flights from Dubai to Adelaide, marking a significant milestone for South Australia and promising a multi-million-dollar boost to tourism and local economy.
The inaugural flight landed last night, connecting the region to over 140 destinations worldwide.
This development is expected to generate an annual economic impact of $160 million, with tourism expenditures alone estimated at over $62 million per year.
The daily service is projected to create more than 315 full-time tourism-related jobs in South Australia.
The flights will be operated using a Boeing 777-200LR, offering 302 seats and 14 tonnes of cargo capacity per flight.
In total, the service will provide over 4,200 weekly seats and a cargo capacity of 196 tonnes, with freight exports valued at an estimated $98 million annually.
With the reinstatement of this service, more than 220,400 passengers are anticipated to travel between Dubai and Adelaide each year, enhancing connectivity for both tourists and businesses.
The flight schedule is designed to provide seamless travel options, departing Dubai at 02:00 and arriving in Adelaide at 20:50 local time, with return flights scheduled for 22:40 and arriving in Dubai at 05:20.
The South Australian government, through the South Australian Tourism Commission, collaborated closely with Adelaide Airport to bring back these direct Emirates flights.
This announcement follows the upcoming return of China Southern Airlines, which will resume three direct flights from Guangzhou to Adelaide in December, and an increase in Air New Zealand flights from Auckland to Adelaide due to rising demand.
Premier Peter Malinauskas emphasized the importance of Emirates’ return, stating, “We’re not just welcoming back a world-class airline; we’re re-opening South Australia’s doors to the world.”
He highlighted the economic benefits and job creation associated with the service.
Minister for Tourism Zoe Bettison welcomed the first Emirates passengers, noting that the airline’s return will enhance South Australia’s appeal to international markets.
Minister for Trade and Investment Joe Szakacs added that local exporters would benefit from improved access to global markets through the new service.
Emirates Executive Vice President Nabil Sultan reaffirmed the airline’s commitment to Australia and praised the collaborative efforts that facilitated the resumption of services to Adelaide.
He noted that the flights would not only bolster trade but also provide South Australians with enhanced travel options.
Managing Director of Adelaide Airport, Brenton Cox highlighted the competitive advantages the Emirates service brings, emphasizing its potential to attract international visitors and support local exporters.
